As a Sterile Processing Technician, you will have a direct impact on the department and the opportunity to contribute to the growth of other techs. In this role, you will work independently to provide services in the decontamination and sterile processing areas whenever monitoring of sterilizers is needed.
Our ideal candidate for this position is CRCST Certified with a minimum of 1 year of experience working within an SPD role.
SHIFT DETAILS

Shift: 9pm-5:30am
Banner Del E. With 391 licensed beds, the hospital provides a wide range of services, including acute medical and surgical services as well as intensive care, emergency and urgent care, inpatient/outpatient surgery, cardiac catheterization, neurology, orthopedics, oncology, urology, pulmonary, obstetrics and gynecology, outpatient diagnostic services, and adult behavioral services.POSITION SUMMARY
This position performs as an integral part of the OR team with limited supervision. Demonstrates accountability for operating room readiness ensuring sterile surgical instrumentation and disposable supplies are complete and ready for a procedure prior to the preceding patient leaving the operating room. Responsible for the proper care and handling of all general and specialty instrumentation including the cleaning, decontamination, disassemble/reassembly, quality assurance, instrument identification, set assembly, packaging, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instrumentation for PeriOp Services, hospital departments, and clinics. This position requires well manner communications and the ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Provides decontamination and sterile processing support to PeriOp Services, ED, ICU, hospital wide departments, and clinics both on and off campus, and ambulatory surgery centers. Provides various levels of service for the management of sterile surgical instrumentation and disposable patient care supplies. Support may-or-may-not include, decontamination of surgical instruments, assembly/sterilization, sterile instrument storage, partial or complete case cart support, OR core tech support and high-level disinfection.
2. Responsible for the decontamination, assembly, and packaging of surgical instruments following established protocols, instructions for use (IFU) as well as performs required quality assurance, repairs, reassembly, documentation, sterility handling, and storage of specialized surgical instruments. Maintains required sterilization logs and quality assurance records relating to all equipment associated for the purpose of decontamination, HLD disinfection, and sterilization.
3. Ability to identify interpret the surgical schedule and medical terminology as it pertains to procedures requiring sterile surgical instrumentation and disposable supplies. Able to address and communicate special needs to minimize delays to surgery. Responds to emergent calls from the Operating Room and performs preliminary investigations. Determines priority level of instrumentation requests and other hospital needs. Directs services in a competent and professional manner while assuring OR priorities are completed in a timely manner
4. Able to differentiate surgical instrumentation that is surgery owned, consignment/loaner, hospital depart, surgeon, ambulatory surgery center, and clinics both on and off campus. Completes necessary tracking of surgical instruments with a paper log sheet or computer process for instrumentation leaving the area. Reports needed replacement of surgical instruments to maintain the inventory and support readiness of sets.
5. Utilizes specialized equipment for the decontamination, high-level disinfection, and sterilization of surgical instrumentation according to the device and equipment manufacturer’s recommendations and hospital policy. Operates steam and hydrogen peroxide sterilizers of various sizes. Operates automated surgical instrument washers, ultrasonics, flush pumps, visualization devices, and cart washers to include high-level disinfectors where supported.
6. Operates various quality assurance testing equipment associated to flexible endoscopic scopes, transesophageal ultrasound probes, and electro-surgical insulation defect detector for laparoscopic and energy provided surgical instrumentation. Utilizes heat detection devices to allow steam sterilized surgical instrumentation to be released for use without risking burns to staff and patients. Operates demagnetizers of stainless-steel instruments for ophthalmic and delicate cardiac surgical instrumentation for safe use on patients. Utilizes various borescope devices to inspect inner channels of lumened surgical instrumentation and flexible scopes.
7. Maintains a clean and safe environment by adhering to Standard Precautions and Infection Control practices. Staff follow protocols for proper donning of personnel protective equipment (PPE) while completing the decontamination process referencing IFU’s supplied by the manufacturers.
8. Maintain flexibility to rotate shifts and adjust hours as needed, maintain a work record of regular attendance, timely arrivals, and departures, maintain professional appearance appropriate to position and function.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
Minimum one (1) year experience as a Sterile Processing Technician OR certified as an SPD Technician (CSPDT) or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) with less than one year of experience.
Must have mechanical aptitude with the ability to break down moving parts, clean, lubricate and reassemble, problem solve incomplete trays and missing instrumentation and have effective organizational, communication and human relation skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Instrument management tracking system.
Complete national certification as an SPD Technician (CSPDT) or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) within one year of hire.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position performs basic prescribed non-invasive cardiovascular procedures to patients. This position analyzes data during the recording, making certain that the information being obtained is valid and interpretable. This position ensures optimal care/treatment to patient population.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Performs basic prescribed standard non-invasive cardiovascular procedures in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
2. Identifies and documents procedures as outlined by departmental policies and procedures to maximize patient outcome.
3. Ensures an accurate and readable recording using deductive reasoning to trouble shoot minor problems, make adjustments as needed during the procedure and prepares recordings for interpretation.
4. Collects and/or reviews pertinent medical, historical, and medication information in order to perform the appropriate study prescribed by the physician as outlined by departmental policies and procedures.
5. Assists with activities to improve department processes, facilitate testing and maintain quality to achieve optimal patient results.
6. May assists in scheduling of patients, charge entry and maintains equipment as outlined by department policies and procedures. Must complete courses in EKG and 12 Lead.
7. Independently performs prescribed non-invasive cardiovascular procedures to patients. Internal customers: All levels of nursing management and staff, medical staff, and all other members of the interdisciplinary health care team. External Customers: regulatory and health agencies, patients and family members.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge. Completion of courses in EKG and 12 Lead.
Certification for BLS required.
This position requires clinical knowledge typically achieved with one year of experience in a relevant clinical environment. Must demonstrate effective communication skills, human relations skills, basic mathematical skills, analyze data and solve basic problems.

Job Description:
The Monitoring Technician is responsible for on-going surveillance of patient cardiac monitors on multiple floors and settings. Provides registered nurses and clinicians with immediate notification of any changes in cardiac rhythms. The Monitoring technician completes the admission set-up of telemetry monitors for the clinical units and performs monitor discharge and maintenance. The Monitoring Technician has completed a Cardiac Dysrhythmia Course and successfully passed a rhythm analysis examination.
- Maintains ongoing, high-level surveillance of patients’ cardiac rhythms and notifies nursing and clinicians of any rate and rhythm changes.
- Measures and interprets patients’ heart rhythm and documents on patient rhythm strip every four hours.
- Initiates and discontinues monitoring equipment on admission, transfer, or discharge.
- Performs configuration as necessary.
- Performs clerical duties related to admission, discharge, and documentation of patient information from Central Cardiac Monitoring Room.
- Communicates clearly when receiving information from units or providers.
- Uses clear and complete communication with unit personnel when delivering information about changes in patient rhythm.
- Orients and mentors new staff members.
- Serves as a resource for training and troubleshooting to both the Central Cardiac Monitoring Room and clinical areas.
- Troubleshoots monitors with nursing staff and contacts Clinical Engineering as appropriate.
- Gives report to oncoming shift.
- Prioritizes and organizes work assignment and adjusts priorities based on changing situations.
- Maintains and stocks all designated equipment, including telemetry and monitoring cables.
- Replaces defective equipment and reports failures to Clinical Engineering.

Job Description:
The Medical Laboratory Scientist-Technical Lead will use their thorough knowledge of Laboratory Science to assist the Laboratory Supervisor in maintaining laboratory standards in accordance with accrediting bodies, including, but not limited to CAP, CDC, CLIA, FACHT, FDA, JCAHO, and HCFA. Using their knowledge and proficiency in the skills and practices of the section, they will be responsible for technical review of standard operating procedures, validation of new procedures, and review and coordination of quality control.
Essential Functions:
• Submits feedback to the Laboratory Supervisor for technical evaluation of section employees (includes Initial competency and skills assessment/validation)
• Performs direct observation and ensures competency for all department staff
• Recommends and implements improvements necessary to achieve operational goals and to improve patient outcomes
• Monitors quality control and proficiency testing for department
• Ensures that accreditation standards are met for department in accordance with CAP, JCAHO, CLIA, AABB, FDA, OSHA, etc.
• Demonstrates comprehension of all procedures within the department as defined in the Procedure Manuals. Reviews Manuals biannually, revises procedures as necessary
• Evaluates new technologies for the section in conjunction with the Medical Director of the department
• Serves in a problem solving role for the department
• Assists in the orientation of new department employees as demonstrated by the completed orientation checklist in the employees personnel file
• Meets regularly with Laboratory Supervisor and section Medical Director and seeks involvement regarding capital purchases, operational, and technical issues

5. Documents and follows up on problems. Able to access reference materials and on-line manuals, when needed.
6. Follows test cancellation policy and completes follow-up tasks as needed. Locates specimens for add-on testing.
7. Maintains minimum supply levels and maintains cleanliness of workstation and of the section.
8. Provides input on policies and procedures.
9. Assists in training new employees and students.
10. Reviews and completes assigned continuing education documents. This includes annual mandatory education and laboratory procedures review and acknowledgment.
11. Performs and documents routine quality control of equipment (centrifuge, refrigerator temperatures) as required by location.
12. Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution.

Perform duties of a part-time Laboratory Assistant 1 in a cutting-edge Cardiac Surgery research laboratory focusing on developing treatments for acquired cardiac diseases in adults. Incumbent will perform duties as a Surgical Processing Technician to include: decontamination and/or processing of equipment and instrumentation, and distribution of supplies or equipment, as assigned within UCLA Healthcare. Cross training will be provided. Other major duties include, but are not limited to, customer service, departmental efficiencies and facilitates care and processing of surgical instruments.

As a Clinical Laboratory Scientist specializing in Transfusion Medicine, you will be integral to our patient care team, undertaking the following duties:
•Conduct patient transfusion testing and handle immunohematology problem work-ups.
•Perform computer data entry and retrieval tasks.
•Execute quality control testing and engage in quality assurance activities.
•Provide essential transfusion support for a diverse range of patients, including those undergoing trauma and transplant procedures at UCLA Medical Center.

Salary Range: $59.37 - $79.11/hour
In addition to a competitive salary range, this position is also eligible for shift differentials and bonus pay.
•Current, valid California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or Clinical Immunohematologist Scientist (CIS) license.
•Bachelor’s degree.
•Must pass the Ishihara Color Vision exam, i.e. visual acuity including color differentiation.
•Two years of recent CLS experience within a Blood Bank/Transfusion Medicine setting – preferred.
•Experience with MTS gel methodology and solid-phase testing – preferred.
