Location: St. Mary Medical Center – Langhorne, PA
Position Purpose
The Emergency Technician functions under the supervision of the Registered Nurse to support the delivery of high-quality patient care in the Emergency Department. This role assists the healthcare team by providing direct and indirect patient care, maintaining equipment and supplies, and supporting clinical and clerical operations.
As an Emergency Technician, you will:
- Perform direct and indirect patient care activities in accordance with RN/LPN direction, physician orders, and established policies
- Assist with procedures including specimen collection, ostomy care, glucose monitoring, and application of orthopedic or protective devices
- Obtain and record vital signs, assist with patient hygiene, feeding, and mobility support
- Perform 12-lead EKGs and phlebotomy procedures accurately
- Communicate patient status and concerns to the Registered Nurse in a timely manner
- Assist with scheduling diagnostic procedures, tests, and consultations
- Participate in trauma calls and collaborate with interdisciplinary team members during emergencies
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- HS Diploma or equivalent
- BLS Certification
- EMT certification or Medical Assistant certification OR is within the final year of a nursing school program
- Prior Emergency Technician experience preferred

About the Role
As a Medical Lab Scientist, you will play a vital role in supporting patient care by performing accurate and timely laboratory testing used in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. Testing domains include waived, moderate, and high‑complexity procedures. Required: Experience with waived, moderate, and high‑complexity testing in a clinical laboratory setting—through education or hands‑on work experience.
What You’ll Do
Perform and document laboratory testing—including pre‑analytical steps—following standard operating procedures and accreditation standards to ensure high‑quality patient care.
Conduct and evaluate quality control procedures for tests, equipment, reagents, and media.
Identify, investigate, and resolve testing variances by implementing corrective actions to ensure accurate, reliable results.

Adheres to the general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building. Ensures readiness of emergency equipment and supplies, recognizes, and reacts appropriately to potential emergency situations. Checking readiness of supplies and equipment for emergency cases. Applying knowledge of illness, injury and disease assessment process and recognizing those symptoms needing immediate intervention. Recognizing when a situation is critical and requires immediate attention. Initiating call/codes or contacts appropriate resources needed to provide or obtain emergency services. Providing emergency assistance as required and/or directed by the appropriate authority or emergency team leader. Remaining up-to-date on ACLS/BCLS.
Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment to patients, self, co-workers and facility. Maintaining IV fluids, stock drugs, emergency drugs and controlled substance, auditing amounts, expiration dates and reporting such findings to Pharmacy. Safeguarding the rights of patients and hospital personnel to privacy by judiciously protecting information of a confidential manner. Providing patient comfort. Demonstrating safety consciousness through knowledge and adherence to safety standards. Applying knowledge of safe and effective use of equipment. Demonstrating proper technique and calibration of equipment when performing daily checks. Maintaining a safe and therapeutic physical environment and minimizing risk of injury by promoting fall precautions, use of side rails and other safety practices. Reporting any equipment malfunction. Operates all equipment needed for any aspect of invasive or interventional cardiology, including IABP. Prepares medications and checks emergency equipment for proper function prior to initiation of catheterization. Operation and quality control of all radiographic equipment. Maintains a good working knowledge of all equipment utilized to ensure continuous effective operations of the facility. Maintains working knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures involved in the operation of radiographic and fluoroscopic cardiac catheterization equipment. Works within required regulations for radiation safety and protection, involving all personnel and patients. Consistently utilizes Universal Protocol.
Maintains files and compiles records according to procedure as required for accurate and current departmental records and/or reports. Creating, maintaining and documenting, via electronic information systems, accurate records, files and logs for departmental records. Entering correct patient data, assigning appropriate charges for exams and recording/collecting data for Quality Assurance monitors. Percentage of error within acceptable standards. Ensuring complete, accurate and timely written communication of patient information. Completing documentation on appropriate forms, i.e., Cath Lab, nursing notes, Patient/Family Education Documentation Form, narcotic sheet, Code Blue sheet, etc. Completing consistently all parts of documentation system per hospital/unit policies. Understanding of HeartLab archiving equipment
Communicates to the team, co-workers, patients and family members in an effective positive and professional manner. Communicating information to patients and family members and evaluating understanding of information provided, i.e., diagnostic tests, special procedures, etc. Promoting a cooperative working environment by utilizing therapeutic communication skills. Provides coverage for 24-hour emergency call for Cardiac Cath Lab. Rotating on call responsibilities with other staff members. Responding in a timely fashion (within 25 minutes) to emergency calls. Facilitating activities between departments to ensure prompt patient care.
Administers patient care as mandated by licensure, certification or registration. Monitoring patient to insure physiologic stability throughout the procedure. Utilizing advanced knowledge to properly administer prescribed medications and treatments under the direct supervision of the physician. Performing and assisting in procedures using skilled techniques. Evaluating patient prior to procedures, checking for appropriate consent and patient ID reporting any alarming patient conditions, explaining the procedure to patient, answering and/or researching patient questions. Positioning patient properly and/or comfortably, attaching protective, diagnostic and/or monitoring devices properly. Assessing the patient's physical needs .Evaluating effectiveness of nursing intervention. Carrying out physician orders.
Provides instruction, education and consultation to co-workers, new employees and trainees. Participating in Continuing Education lectures and meetings. Providing educational support for co-workers. Participating in the instruction and orientation on proper techniques, procedures and use of equipment. Attends 80% of in-services. Maintains competencies (hospital and departmental)
Performs and maintains competency for point of care testing as assigned .Ensuring compliance with NCBH polices and applicable state and federal regulations. Maintaining annual competencies – written and observed. Participating in daily EQC when assigned and covers absences as needed. Documenting appropriately POCT data in SENSIS (Cardiac Cath Lab)
Ensures age/developmentally appropriate patient procedures are provided in accordance with Age-Specific Care Guidelines for the specific age groups served. Demonstrating knowledge of physical, motor/sensory, mental, psychosocial, safety and developmental factors in the Age-Specific Care Guidelines. Integrating Age-Specific Care knowledge in assessing patient needs and in planning, prioritizing, delivering and documenting patient care. Communicating information, education, and patient needs sensitive to age and development level of the individual patient/family. Maintaining competence related to age-specific patient care by regularly updating knowledge of growth and development, the aging process and strategies to meet related needs.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- CPR certification

Essential Functions

• Maintains clean environment to include base and maintaining vehicles in a mission ready status. Accountable to check and verify established minimum transport vehicle supply levels, restock and clean at the beginning of the shift and as needed throughout the shift.
• Provides accurate and legible documentation of patient care with attention to detail that accurately reflects assessment and interventions. Ensures that chart is placed in patient’s medical record in a timely manner.
• Provides quality patient care and education in accordance with policies and state regulations as approved by Medical Director and professional standards of care.
• Follows guidelines and procedures independently when Medical Control is not available via radio or direct consultation.
• Assists with other activities which includes but not limited to public relations and marketing activities when needed.

Physical Requirements
F TE is hired for 40 hours per week – 4, 8, 10 or 12- hour clinical shifts. In addition, training, education and call may be required. Day, night and weekend work is required. Must be willing to cover open shifts on short notice. Duties require working, transporting and driving in all weather conditions to include exposure to extreme hot, cold and wet weather. Must not have any physical, emotional or mental impairment to prevent them from riding, driving or administering patient care in a transport vehicle. This work area may have cramped space and be poorly lit. Noise levels are moderate as associated with working in and around emergency vehicles. Education, Experience and Certifications

BCLS required. Approved trauma certification required within 6 months of employment and required to be maintained throughout employment. Plans and implements treatment programs based upon patient evaluation. - Works with physicians to determine program eligibility, progress, and timing of progression to unmonitored home program or Phase III participation.
- Establishes and presents a coordinated health education program for patients on exercise and risk factor reduction. Participates in family and patient conferences as necessary and works closely with cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, physician assistants, and medical staff regarding patient physical status and rehabilitation program.
- Promotes referral to rehabilitation program by developing a sound working relationship with referral sources - physicians and nurses.
- Places electrodes on patient for various cardiac monitors and tests.
- Counsels patient in home activity and exercise programs and purchase of exercise equipment.
- Assists in the resolution of cardiac emergencies or symptoms of exercise intolerance. Assists the in-program planning and implementation.
- May serve as a mentor for staff working for certification by American College of Sports Medicine in Exercise Technologist or Specialist category. Serves as a hospital consultant in area of exercise physiology. Participates in appropriate professional organizations for personal development.
- Assists in monitoring outpatient cardiac rehabilitation exercise groups.
- Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.

2. Complete competencies and annual required CBLs within dedicated timeframe and obtain passing scores on all required assessments.
3. Monitor, identify changes, address alarms to identify any abnormal heart rhythm variation, and report patient’s cardiac rhythm, and/or life- threatening cardiac events to medical and nursing staff.

As a phlebotomist, you'll support Geisinger’s mission of providing exceptional patient care through innovative, efficient, and high-quality laboratory services. At Geisinger, our phlebotomists are the friendly faces that collect samples to be analyzed by our state-of-the-art labs. Supporting a varied patient population, you’ll be responsible for venipunctures/skin punctures on patients in our inpatient setting.
There are many other tasks our phlebotomists complete, such as troubleshooting physician orders, processing specimens for testing, as well as aiding our patients.
We have many different skill levels in our labs, from new to experienced phlebotomists, and all skill levels are well utilized. Geisinger employs phlebotomists in roles I, II, and III. We also have numerous staff members who pursue their ASCP certification and become trainers for our department!
