Summary:
Prepares specimens for analysis by registering and accessioning orders via Hospital Information System and Laboratory Information Systems (clinical lab and/or anatomic pathology), verifying specimen acceptability. Performs established pre-analytical and analytical laboratory procedures, not requiring Medical Technologist or Histology Technologist interpretation, in accordance with established laboratory policy in an accurate, safe, and timely manner.

Responsibilities:
Performs clerical duties. Also maintains equipment and adequate stock of supplies. Maintains work area in a safe, aseptic and organized manner.Assists with receiving, identifying, accessioning, processing and transporting specimens.Assists in the preparation and processing of bone marrow specimens.Provides support functions to technologists including the loading and maintaining of instruments, making up of reagents, thawing, pooling, importing, and issuing of blood products, and maintenance and function checks. Keeps appropriate persons informed of instrument problems and resolutions.Operates, maintains, and repairs clinical laboratory equipment within the scope of training including waived testing, routine preventative maintenance, calibrations, quality control and safety checks.Completes culture setup of microbiology samples and gram stain preparation when staffed in Microbiology department.Performs the phlebotomy function to ensure accurate and timely processing of lab test orders.Provides laboratory customer service to include request for add-ons, specimen collection information, phlebotomy requests, result inquiry, etc.

Required Work Experience: Six (6) months of prior experience as a lab assistant. Other Information: Certification in Phlebotomy is preferred.

Coordinates the work of others as assigned in a medical laboratory section. Works with considerable independence to perform and interpret various chemical, microscopic, and/or bacteriologic tests to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Is expert in the use of all equipment and procedures for an assigned area.Major Responsibilities:
- Interviews prospective candidates for positions in the laboratory and makes recommendation to Manager.
- Evaluates new hires performance and conducts performance reviews on employees assigned.
- Schedules employees for various lab benches and shifts; reviews all work performed in area to ensure completeness and quality and takes corrective action as necessary.
- Discusses performance issues with employees and recommends disciplinary action to Manager.
- Follows established protocols to perform an all kinds of tests, including the most complex for an assigned area. Provides guidance and consultation to Medical Technologist I’s and Medical Lab. Technicians in the interpretation of highly complex or unusual test results.
- Interprets and correlates clinical test results with patient history, diagnosis, and clinical condition to explain test results (normal/abnormal) so that appropriate action can be taken.
- Troubleshoots testing process discrepancies.
- Develops new test and quality procedures for assigned area.
- Ensures that test results meet requirements of the laboratory quality control program.
- Ensures preventative maintenance for equipment in assigned area. Performs complex troubleshooting, repair, and modification of a wide range of complex equipment and instrumentation.
- May assist in the roll-out of new equipment and equipment modifications.
- Instructs technicians and technologists in the set-up and operation of new equipment and procedures.
- Ensures compliance with all laboratory quality and safety policies.
- Instructs students in clinical laboratory operations and procedures.
- Maintains accurate records of tests performed, using computer-based systems.
Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree or successful completion of an accredited four-year school of Medical Technology.
Preferred:
- ASCP certification as an MT is preferred.
Experience/Skills:
Required:
- Five years of related experience with demonstrated leadership skills.
Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position selects and places surgical instruments, supplies and equipment during surgery. Scrubs and provides instruments, sutures, and other sterile supplies during surgical procedure.

This position follows safety procedures in regards to medication labeling, appropriate handling of specimens, appropriate handling of sharps, time-out procedure, radiation and laser safety, infection control, assembling and disassembling instruments. Round, inspect and maintain all assigned areas within scope of facility. POSITION PURPOSE
Conducts simulation-based education (SBE) by working with faculty and staff to implement curriculum for the training of various healthcare professionals in the St. Joseph Mercy Health System. Primarily responsible for the setup and teardown of SBE within the Simulation Center, clinical units and at our satellite locations throughout the region. Operates manikins, vital signs for Standardized Patients, and an audiovisual system for recording and/or streaming of video. Resolves issues related to complex audiovisual systems, computers and advanced human patient simulators. Requests, retrieves and operates clinical equipment required to conduct SBE.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience: Patient Care Technician, EMT, Paramedic, direct patient care or healthcare simulation experience preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conducts pre-simulation activities: Sets up and tests simulation, audiovisual and relevant medical equipment specified in the course materials, places props and assists with moulage. Briefs facilitators and learners, obtains consent to record, ensures all members are signed-in.
- Executes simulation-based education: Records/streams simulation-based education, operates simulated patient vitals, manipulates simulated vitals based on learner actions and facilitator input, assists facilitator in monitoring learner actions. Performs ad-hoc troubleshooting, offers advice for scenario interventions.
- Completes post-simulation activities: Collaborates with faculty about learner performance, assists facilitator with video debrief, participates in event debrief offering recommendations for improvement. Prepares lab for next scenario or event. Collects consents, sign-in sheet, and scenario paperwork.
- Collaborates with team to improve processes: Provides professional, timely feedback to team members including standardized patients, colleagues and management about opportunities to reduce cost, alternative education strategies and process improvement initiatives.
- Responsible for maintaining a clean and organized work environment, including but not limited to activities such as: cleaning tables, stocking gloves, paper towels, making beds, stocking linen, cleaning computer and clinical equipment.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position performs prescribed electroencephalographic procedures to patients. This position analyzes data during the recording, making certain that the information being obtained is valid and interpretable.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Performs prescribed standard electroencephalographic procedures in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
2. Analyzes, identifies and documents procedures as outlined by departmental policies and procedures to maximize patient outcome.
3. Ensures an accurate and readable recording using deductive reasoning to trouble shoot minor problems and make adjustments as needed during the procedure.
4. Collects and/or reviews pertinent medical, historical, and medication information in order to perform the appropriate study prescribed by the physician as outlined by departmental policies and procedures.
5. Assists with activities to improve department processes, facilitate testing and maintain quality to achieve optimal patient results.
6. Assists in scheduling of patients, charge entry and maintains equipment as outlined by department policies and procedures.
7. Independently performs prescribed electroencephalographic procedures to patients. Internal customers: All levels of nursing management and staff, medical staff, and all other members of the interdisciplinary health care team. External Customers: regulatory and health agencies, patients and family members.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
This position requires clinical knowledge typically achieved with one year of experience. Must demonstrate effective communication skills, human relations skills, basic mathematical skills, analyze data and solve basic problems.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.

At Houston Methodist, the Patient Observation Tech position is responsible for demonstrating basic knowledge and skills necessary to communicate appropriately and provide continuous, electronic observation and surveillance of assigned age-specific, diverse patient population, assisting in the delivery of patient care and services. This position verbally redirects the patient from engaging in at-risk behaviors and summoning nursing staff when patient requires assistance, and reports observations and patient problems to the licensed nurse. - Provides instruction to pathology residents, fellows and pathology assistant students in surgical and autopsy pathology, acting as a resource and mentor.

- Performs gross dissection of large and small surgical specimens, using standard dissection protocols, identifying and submitting pathologic tissues for histological processing and evaluation. Dictates accurate and precise gross descriptions for each specimen.
- Assists wit dissection and tissue sampling of specimens sent for intra-operative consultation.
- Photographs specimens for documentation and for use in presentations and publications. Maintains digital photography database.
- Completes overflow cases from other peripheral hospitals as needed. Available to provide coverage at other Houston Methodist laboratory entities as needed.

- Reviews all frozen section reports on a monthly basis for quality assurance, with final review and assessment by pathologists.
- Collects cases for quality assurance retrospective review.
