- Ensures continuous telemetry monitoring is established and documentation is maintained.
- Ensures monitoring equipment is functioning correctly.
- Ensures dysrhythmias or rhythm changes are communicated timely.
- Maintains knowledge and skills related to dysrhythmia monitoring.
- Participates in quality improvement projects.
- Supports provision of age/developmental appropriate care in accordance with Age/Developmental Specific Care Guidelines for the age groups served.

Minimum Job Requirements
Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
Certification / Registration / License: Successful completion of an approved dysrhythmia course during first week of hire and must pass dysrhythmia test during first week of orientation.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Must have manual and finger dexterity. Physical abilities testing required.

The incumbent will work with allied medical professionals, networked Intermountain Healthcare facilities, and physicians to provide quality EKGs.

Posting Specifics

Essential Functions
- Perform exams per department protocol and demonstrate EKG competency.
- Complete studies within accepted time limits without compromising patient care or the quality of the exam. Complete orders and charge entry timely and accurately.
- Maintain a working knowledge of how to proficiently use the department’s equipment; Perform routine maintenance including cleaning and report any variance from normal that may impact function.
- Respond immediately to calls as appropriate by facility.
- Notify physician if critical values are identified during the test, as per Critical Value Policy.
- Ensure proper patient identification by using two patient identifiers and review patient chart to confirm correct procedure order, prior to performing.
- Provide patient education as needed and ensure patient comfort.
- Incumbent is responsible for being able to administer every test within the EKG Lab (including Holter, ambulatory telemetry/event monitors, blood pressure monitor, stress testing, and EKGs). Must provide technical assistance and monitoring of all exercise treadmill studies as appropriate by facility.

Minimum Qualifications
- Must have and maintain current BLS certification for healthcare providers.
- Must take and pass the Intermountain Healthcare EKG course and pass off associated skills within four months of hire (or take the first class offered after hire date)

Summary:
Under the supervision of a RN, the Monitor Technician monitors, recognizes, and interprets cardiac rhythms while identifying deviations in patients' baseline, and changes in SP02. The Monitor Technician notifies the registered nurse of changes to a patient's status and initiates the appropriate emergency response by the critical care team in the event of a lethal arrhythmia, including irregular heart rhythms and cardiac arrest.

Records information in patient's log and maintains accurate, neat account of patient's cardiac monitoring status during episode of care. Identifies and records patient's rhythm and changes in patient rhythm and condition. Updates patient's records with all readings taken from the heart monitor or EKGs.Documents the electrocardiograph tracings of patients on telemetry monitors.Identifies arrhythmias, deviation in each patient's baseline, signs of patient deterioration, and intervenes to ensure patient safety.Reports abnormal or change in patient's telemetry monitoring to nursing staff or immediate supervisor or designated chain of command.Identifies and corrects for artifacts.Attaches electrode to patients' bodies to record electrical impulses from the heart to perform continuous ECG Monitoring.Performs continual and simultaneous surveillance for the operation of complex cardiac monitoring systems, including ECG rhythm screens, computerized dysrhythmia detection system and rhythm printers.Activates emergency response or rapid response for lethal arrhythmia or cardiac arrest.

POSITION PURPOSE
Provides Planned Maintenance (PM), safety testing, repairs, calibration, installation, routine and emergency service to general diagnostic and therapeutic medical equipment, as assigned by the Clinical Engineering (CE) Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Knows, understands, incorporates and demonstrates the mission, vision and core values of Trinity Health and the Ministry Organization in leadership behaviors, practices and decisions.
Performs PM procedures on multiple types of general and specialized clinical equipment.
Performs PM procedures using manufacturers' recommendations, standards or code requirements, as well as industry acceptable processes as guidelines.
Performs Corrective Maintenance (CM) procedures including diagnosing problems using thermodynamic, electronic/electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and/or other related sciences and documents results of activities performed to comply with all regulatory and standards requirements.
Notifies equipment users and Clinical Engineering Management of repair status and delays as necessary.
Interacts with clinical staff to understand and resolve operational problems in scheduling and completing PM procedures while minimizing interference to hospital departments.
Determines need for replacement parts and supplies, selects the most cost effective source, and submits properly completed parts request using established policies and guidelines.
Completes corrective and planned maintenance work order documentation.
Promotes teamwork by keeping others informed, participating effectively in group decision making, works to accomplish team objectives and projects, and solicits feedback about one's effectiveness as a team member.
Continually improves processes by seeking ways to eliminate and reduce waste.
Has authority (based on department guidelines) to order parts and supplies required for emergency service or repair of medical equipment. Recommends test equipment and spare equipment parts to the CE Manager or Lead Technician.
Provides on-call service coverage after normal business hours on a rotating basis, as assigned.
Performs other duties as assigned or requested by CE Manager.
Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws/regulations; the Trinity Health Integrity and Compliance Program and Code of Conduct; as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of an Associates of Applied Sciences Degree in related field of medical electronics, electronic technology or equivalent military related training required.
One to two-years experience or equivalent, performing corrective and planned maintenance on medical equipment per policy.
Must have a basic understanding of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
Working knowledge and ability to use basic hand tools and test equipment specific to the field. Ability to train CE associates on use and application of select test equipment.
Must have knowledge and understanding of OSHA, NFPA, The Joint Commission, EOC, FDA and other specific regulations and standards pertaining to clinical equipment service and repair.

Hours are 0900-1730 with shift flexibility to earlier hours as needed. Includes on-call hours and holiday call.
Pay Range:
$20.80 - $31.20Major Responsibilities:- Sets up monitoring equipment in the operating room. This includes the operating table, autotransfusion system, electrocardiograph (ECG) and temperature cables, hyper/hypothermia blanket, medication and pressure manifolds, rapid infusion warmer, recorders, defibrillators, the patient monitoring system, and transesophageal echocardiography imaging unit (TEE) machines.
- During surgical procedures, assists in the insertion of arterial pressure lines, central venous and Swan-Ganz catheter insertion, draws arterial and/or venous blood samples for diagnostic testing, checks ventilators for proper operating efficiency, operates monitor and recording systems, and identifies the various types of intubation blades and fiberoptic bronchoscopes as well as any other special equipment or supplies required for difficult intubation.
- Calibrates all pressures and recording systems within the patient monitoring system to ensure and maintain precise readings.
- Assists in transfers of patients to and from the operating room, collects all data sheets and transports them with the patient, and establishes ECG and pressure monitoring at the destination.
- Cleans all non-disposable equipment after each procedure, performs daily maintenance checks and stocks equipment.
- Moves anesthesia equipment to proper surgical suite; checks equipment to verify proper connections, gases turned off, etc.
- Maintains adequate supply of proper equipment such as: needles, syringes, air-ways, endotracheal tube (ET) tubes, scopes and blade, stethoscope, blood pressure cuff and other necessary items in anesthesia carts.
- Troubleshoots equipment malfunctions or failures and takes all necessary steps to promptly return the equipment to a safe and reliable operating condition, using backup equipment when necessary.
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required.
Education Required:
- High School Graduate.
Experience Required:
- Typically requires 1 year of experience in a surgical, medical or related healthcare setting.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Basic computer proficiency.

- Team members will maintain annual educational requirements for hospital based certifications (e.g. DNV, CARF or others).

- Must stand the majority of the workday, as well as sit, walk, and lift throughout.
- Must be able to:
- lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist.
- lift up to 20 lbs. over the head.
- carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.
- Must be able to:
- push/pull with 30 lbs. of force.
- perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
- Working atmosphere may contain fumes and odors from Operating Room (OR).
